The Fine Art of Lampwork Glass Beads

Glass Leaf Pendant by Donna Nova

Glass Leaf Pendant by Donna Nova

Donna Nova’s hand made lampwork glass leaves come in a multitude of colors and shades, which she then links together in a creatively designed piece of jewelry.

Each glass leaf is individually lampworked (working the glass in a hot flame), by adding color, forming and stretching a bead into a plant leaf or flower petal. She artfully puts up to 60 of these individual leaf beads together to  make a powerful and gorgeous statement necklace, earrings or pendants.

Whether you are looking for special accessory to create your look or a lively and unforgettable one-of-a-kind gift, you will find a wonderful selection with Donna Nova’s intriguing jewelry.

Sean Brown Ceramic Jewelry Pin

The threat of Breast Cancer is prevalent in every community across the country. it is unnecessary to ask who has been affected directly or indirectly with Breast Cancer today because most people would raise their hands and acknowledge knowing someone afflicted, someone who has conquered and survived, and someone who has succumbed to this awful disease.

We are particularly anxious to be part of the Breast Cancer Awareness month this October because Occasions! by design, like so many other individuals and businesses has been personally affected. Occasions! will show its support by donating a portion of all proceeds from the sale of this select group of items which will be donated to Breast Cancer Awareness and Support.

Show your support in the fight against Breast Cancer through the purchase of one of these items. The enamel pin and hand blown glass flowers pictured here were especially created for this event by Occasions! artists Sean Brown and Jannine Cabossel of Liquid Light Glass.

Printmaking 101

Thursday, August 19th, 2010
"Submariner" by Ray Maseman Printmaking

"Submariner" by Ray Maseman Printmaking

A print can be made in either two ways. One basic process is by adding a design in ink, oil or acrylic paint to a plate, screen or paper and then transferring it with pressure on to your final paper. This can also be called a monotype or silkscreen.

The other basic way is by extracting the image from a metal plate or stone by etching or engraving the image onto the surface with fine printmaking tools. Once the image is created ink, oil or acrylic paint is added and then transferred onto a damp cloth or paper, creating your print. This type of printmaking is also be referred to as an intaglio, aquatint and dry point just to name a few.

In order to get to the final printing stage there are many important prepping and rigorous steps to follow in order to create a perfect screen, plate or stone to duplicate from. Treating the stone, plate or canvase and screen with insolvable chemicals, oils and emulsions takes much patience, skill and experience.

As with all art—practice, experimentation, imagination and natural skill allows for experts in their field of printmaking. A print maker has to think in the revers. Almost everything is backwards when it comes to printmaking. The negative space, or the background, is as important as the actual image itself.
